Hate Crimes in America Essay

How genuine should the danger of an abhor wrongdoing be taken? As indicated by Ellis Cose, the African American creator of Ignore the Noose Makers, to give an excess of consideration to the stupidity of the individuals who hang nooses essentially to scare their dark objective, â€Å"is to concede them a significance they don't deserve.† Nooses have a terrible history related with them. They are known to be utilized in lynching (rebuffing individuals for violations by private residents without preliminary, regardless of whether they are blameworthy or not), of which seventy five percent of the bodies of evidence in American history were against blacks. George Curry, another African American creator of Calling Nooses What They Are †Terrorism, feels firmly that these dangers are not to be trifled with, and with that disposition individuals won't have the option to â€Å"bridge the racial divide.† The American individuals are shielded from loathe wrongdoings and verbal dangers, and the hanging of a noose is a danger in itself of which their casualties merit security from. The way that Congress perceives wrongdoings roused by inclination as more genuine than the wrongdoing submitted alone isn't being referred to. â€Å"Congress has passed the Hate Crimes Sentencing Enhancement Act, which builds punishments for some felonies when they are persuaded by bias.† The discussion is whether these laws ought to be applied to the across the board appearance of nooses since 2007, when the treatment of the â€Å"Jena 6† got across the country press inclusion. Nooses were hung in a tree at Jena High School in Jena, Louisiana, which made racial pressures raise throughout the months following August 2006, after the standard was overruled when he suggested ousting the understudies discovered liable for the shock. A dark understudy was assaulted in November by a horde of white understudies, of which one individual from the gathering was accused of battery and discharged waiting on the post trial process. Thusly, a white understudy was assaulted in the wake of provoking the survivor of the past beating. Be that as it may, the dark understudies didn't get off so natural. They were accused of endeavored second-degree murder. American courts need to utilize this as a prime case of how an alleged â€Å"cry for attention† can grow into genuine, unsafe mayhem. Webster’s Dictionary characterizes lynching as â€Å"the practice of rebuffing men for violations by private unapproved people, without a legitimate preliminary . . . to incur discipline without types of law, as by a mob.† There were a wide range of types of lynching, which are all awful and low; one might be whipped, shot, ravaged, hauled behind vehicles, or consumed alive. The most famous decision, however, were open hangings. This is the place the noose comes in as an amazing image of the loathsome manner by which African Americans endured because of their bigot white captors, most outstandingly the Ku Klux Klan. It is out of line to guarantee that the hanging of a noose is anything shy of a potential despise wrongdoing. As indicated by law, it isn't unlawful for individuals to balance nooses on their own private property, or to show some other negative dislike for a minority bunch dependent on their religion, sex, political status, race, or other connection. The police can't constrain an individual to expel any of their own looks of supposition and to endeavor to do so would be an impediment of their intrinsically ensured right to the right to speak freely of discourse. On the off chance that somebody goes outside their private property and balances a noose in an open zone, or the private property of another resident without their consent, the law has each option to expel it and the people might be sued by the individual whom is being â€Å"attacked†. There are some who accept a â€Å"hate crime† ought not hold a more serious sentence than the wrongdoing in itself; that an individual ought not be singled out for pounding a dark man since they are dark any longer than they ought to get discipline for threatening behavior alone. In any case, hanging a noose on someone’s door handle ought to be considered as a genuine danger that merits consideration and examination. Who is to state which of these scares are for a wiped out, contorted snicker and which are genuine dangers which will be followed not long after with activity? There are two strong focuses in the discussion between Ignore the Noose Makers and Calling Nooses What They Are †Terrorism. The smart individuals in America understand that on the opposite side of the range there are the oblivious, one-sided people who drape nooses for a chuckle. To overlook these individuals is to deny them of a learning experience equipped for having them comprehend the effect of their activities on others. There can be no evident racial balance until all detest violations are paid attention to and individuals are taught on the history behind the props they use in them. It is hard to decide regarding whether the danger conceivably connected with hanging a noose will show itself into the real world. All things considered, everybody would prefer to have a sense of security than sorry. Works Cited Examples for College Writing: A Rhetorical Reader and Guide. Ed. Laurie G. Kirszner and Stephen R. Literature Review of Orangutan Foundation

Question: Volunteer the travel industry speaks to a rising the travel industry area for the individuals who need to have any kind of effect while on an excursion just as guaranteeing that neighborhood networks advantage both earth and financially (Coren Gray, 2012). Associations, for example, World Wildlife Fund, Antipodeans, Conservation International, Australian Volunteers, to give some examples, are offering volunteer the travel industry campaigns to Australians. The writing survey distinguishes four inspirational subjects of social inundation, looking for fellowship, giving back, and holding openings among the sections of volunteer voyagers (McGehee Clemmons, 2008). The Orangutan Foundation in Central Kalimantan in Indonesian Borneo runs visits where volunteers can help with developing structures and fences to make sure about the wild orang-utans. The statement of purpose for the association illuminates us that the Orangutan Foundation goes past that of absolutely ensuring the orangutan. F undamentally it additionally incorporates an acknowledgment that orangutan territory is exceptional in its extravagance of biodiversity and vital for nearby networks, who are as dependant on the timberland just like the orang-utan (Orangutan Foundation 2014, p. 1). Your assignment is to elevate its protection system to Australian volunteer sightseers. You are required to lead a writing survey on it. Answer: Official Summery An individual whose energy and the liberal wish over creation focal points and who especially moves to a range to execute non-reflex work without remuneration for whatever cause that is generally gotten together with hardship, environmental, assessment or open reasons and in the interim chase down to encounter the standard pieces of movement is all around known as an offer vacationer (Wearing, 2001). These typology of guests are guests who offer in a sifted through strategy to execute adventures that may merge supporting or treating the substance hardship of two or three portrayals of the social occasion, the recuperation of specific environmental factors, or assessment concerning factors of get-together or air. This appearance of movement and redirection can comparably be associated with decision, transparent to goodness travel and loosening up that offers rudiments to return and knowing and awards a gainful relationship among occupants and guests (Newsome, 2002). It can additionall y be related to assessment travel and loosening up (Benson, 2011). (Wearing, 2001), in like way accessories volunteer the travel industry to participatory travel and diversion, experience travel and loosening up, general aiding, and eco-the travel industry. It is from this time forward a blend of supporting inside movement and loosening up. (Reed, 2009), anyway is of the perspective that explanations of volunteer the travel industry are so limited they don't depict the wide qualities of this model. Along these lines it is guaranteed to give that this kind of affiliations structure fills in as a learning contraption, develops and encourages self-difference in the offer experience that changes into a ceaseless framework which produces for the authentic vacationer visit. This article will separate, through extra assessment, the possibility that volunteer the travel industry helps intercultural exchanges that benefactor hardship and sponsorships travel and delight as neo-domain. It will clip all the conceivable beneficial impact and benefits and further more all conceivable troublesome impacts that this industry accommodates the offer guests, the mixed sack nation and its family. These impacts will be collects from instructive examination, their musings and from authentic frameworks as taught oversee by the parts. It would then be conceivable to diagram the guaranteed qualities of volunteer the travel industry and truly focus and declare its certifiable ability (Lee, 2010). Presentation (McGehee, 2005), delineated that voluntourism assessment is truly new and as being what is exhibited multifaceted experiences concerning voluntourists has still to be dejected down further. (Ace, 2000), recognize that way of life has two related essential standards. The basic is Ideological that is vital to measures, measures, rules and customs. The second is Material, this is fundamental to help and conduct (Birrell, 2010). These social blends would unquestionably influence both nearby individuals and the offer. In the producer's perspective transient offer guests would have amassed more mix way of life data than the tenants, anyway long haul helping would influence close by people's concept of social hodgepodges. It is consequently the degree of relationship, for example, an offer vacationer, the length of remain; the wording interface and the longing to break down are key portions that impact the attributes of socially different return (Wall, 2006). (Lamoureux, 2009), confirms that volunteer the travel industry is a substitute sort of movement and loosening up that depends on from a general perspective on cross-partition speculation and which combines a lot of gamers, for example, the government, private industry and city pack. He continue to clarify that there are two relationship of Volunteer Handling Organizations to be specific, Volunteer Delivering Organizations and Volunteer Getting Organizations. He expresses that these affiliations must execute together to play out a successful volunteer the travel industry experience. (Lamoureux, 2009), really underscores the need of speculation in the midst of gamers and that a total motivation driving the planned exertion may not be advantage, yet rather the accomplishment of some social or natural remarkable. An animating investigation performed by (Alexander, 2011), found that the translation that showed up as a depiction of voluntourism might be 'commitment in offer execute as a vi sitor', mentioning the enunciation as hypothesis, vacationer and offer execute. Seven premium contemplations where portrayed are: obligation, movement, joining, transmission, affiliations, theory and commitment. In the producer's perspective these contemplations are like similar impacts of a normal visitor's understanding, regardless, the volunteers have an increasingly prominent impact as they are progressively excited and gotten together with the regular occupants as they execute their execute, and in like way experience varying return through the volunteer's execute duties (McIntosh, 2007). The majority of the seven cooperation insights are a sort of movement to enable others to shy of stores particularly in instances of hardship. By methodology for these assistance experiences, the volunteers may have collected the data and better knowing about general issues, for example, normal spoil and hardship from straight getting less prosperous people. The subsequent characterization as depicted by (Alexander, 2011), offer perform, has incited five considerations, decision, blend of perform, exchange, timeframe and specific reasons. These focuses all depend on upon the offer, the kind of wander and the sort of affiliation. There are different sorts of tasks accessible that are managed by a gathering of providers or passing on relationship around the world (Raymond, 2008), for example, the EU, Non-benefit Organizations, NGOs, Colleges a valid example Western Non-reflex Alternatives, Worldwide Learners Volunteers, Cross-Cultural Alternatives, Worldwide Volunteer Programs Organization, and so on. As indicated by (Lyons, 2008), NGOs are the better decision to different other ace affiliations paying little brain to that they moreover have some non-divides in their association concerning conscious cutoff points. Because of gigantic deforestation, assessment and boondocks shoots, nature of the range's orang-utans is impacting and under driving forward hazard. As an effect, the mixed packs is quickly exposed. The Matang Wild Life Center is a shelter for orang-utans which have been staying hurt, abandoned or have been spared, by and large as because of these threats. The middle works perseveringly to in reverse this example in assorted ways, and is all things considered rich by the joint effort of volunteers. Orang-utan chips in on this wander respect the surprising wild condition of Kubah Nation Park as their own fenced in area, and execute as a part of a social event despite the contiguous organizations to help the middle through upgrading developing necessities, offering change for the orang-utans and supporting with progress meanders around the purpose of combination. This permits the Sarawak Forestry Organization (who handle the inside which is constrained by the Sarawak government) to concentrate on recuperation of the orang-utans and the purpose of combination's various animals, and hence further their security. Partaking in this orang-utan offer wander awards volunteers to pure and simple get remembered for the activities of this stunning Matang Wild Life Center and it is an amazing cooperation, helping to upgrade the ways of life of the orang-utans and perform towards their inescapable security Writing Review As indicated by (Palacios, 2010), instructive examination and editorialists have discovered some volunteer the travel industry conditions where experiences don't appear to push basic bits of finding out about hardship, where overall premiums are sifted through over ordinary ones and where passing on affiliations and offer guests similarly normally get a more important number of focal concentrations than the broadcasted. (Palacios, 2010), was making reference to this issue when during the 2000s there was gathering question on the issue. (C.M., 2012), claims that the request in regards to who gets more would be immaterial if volunteer the travel industry was not to give convincing urge anyway rather to plug normal considering and intercultural knowing. Palacios clashes the way that volunteers have taken in the knowing in general hardship and get-together capacity. Despite how this is in no way, shape or form ruinous, it can beneficial inspiration to progressively doable and communitari an decisions later on. On this equivalent exchange, Palacios ensures voluntourism as ordinariness when the focal point of a

In which I show no restraint whatsoever

In which I show no restraint whatsoever On Sunday, I moved out of Senior Haus for the first time in two years, as Im working at CTD again this year as an RTA for Neuroscience and living at Northwestern for the summer makes it difficult to also live at MIT. My summer job doesnt start until June 23rd, though, so Ive been at home ever since. Ive been in my house for what I think is going on the fifth day (fifth? What day is it?? Is it really Thursday???) in a row and everything is really getting to me, so when I was taking a break from playing yet another game of phone Tetris by looking at stuff on the Internet while on the toilet man, I love wireless internet I did something I swore up and down I wouldnt do this year: I joined the MIT Class of 2013 facebook group. Sophomores and juniors can attest to the fact that I spent ample amounts of time last summer and the summer before answering questions and debunking myths. But Im a senior this year, and after three years of this stuff, I should be entitled to a month or two of just not caring whether or not you decide to do Terrascope or a freshman seminar. (Holy crap, Im a senior. When did that happen?! Wasnt I posting obnoxious froshy comments on the blogs just two seconds ago?) I have absolutely nothing better to do, though, so Ill be posting stuff like the points below: -A four-inch memory foam mattress pad, though pretty damn comfortable, is really not necessary for your bed. In fact, I fear that it may swallow you in the middle of the night in January. You cant really trust anything that retains an imprint of your hand for that long, regardless of what those Tempur-Pedic informercials say. -Where you are temped for REX is not that important. I ranked Baker first in my housing lottery three years ago (SERIOUSLY THIS CANT BE RIGHT IM NOT OLD ENOUGH FOR THIS), got temped in New House, and after REX I moved to Senior Haus, which I love so much that Ive been masochistic enough to run Steer Roast and be Haus president for a year. If you dont like where youre temped, you can move. Unless its McCormick. Or Spanish House. Or Chocolate City. Or no, thats it. -It doesnt matter too much when you take 7.012/3/4/5(?) or which incarnation of the class you decide to take, so long as you pass it and graduate. This does not apply if your major requires it for a ton of classes or if you are really bad at bio, in which case you should take it as soon as possible, as Pass/No Record is kind of your BFF. No, I cannot tell you when I decided to take it, as I got a 5 on the AP Bio exam and got credit for the class. The class of 2010 was the last class for which this was allowed, so I like to rub it in a little bit every now and then. I wrote a post on freshman scheduling two years ago (OH GOD I HAVE BEEN HERE TOO LONG ALREADY), which has a basic outline that doesnt need to be followed, as you can see in the comments at the end of the post. -You do not need to bring your own fire extinguisher. Dont laugh. Someone asked this once. -Yes, Im this awesome all the time. Thank you. My hair just dries like this. -Thats actually a lie. Im not very awesome at all. And my hairs a disaster when it dries. Anyway, I suppose Ill be another one of the eleventy million current students answering questions and countering each others advice in the Facebook group. Moving on to more important information: a Japanese manufacturer recently unveiled its latest invention: a robot that cooks you pancakes for breakfast. This would be the highlight of my life thus far, were it not for the fact that good news, everyone! Futurama just got uncanceled! Better than pancakes: Y/N? Y. Definitely a Y.

Analysis Of The Poem Lines - 1246 Words

Immortal in Lines The poem Beachy Head begins with a narrator who reclines â€Å"on thy [Beachy Head’s] stupendous summit† (1). After the narrator leads readers through the idyllic scene at Beachy Head and introduces a character the shepherd, curiously, this first person narrator â€Å"I† silently vanishes in the middle of the poem. The third person narrative henceforward dominates the rest of the poem. Instead of the narrator, a stranger, later in the poem referred to as the hermit, comes under the spotlight. Adding one more dimension, this binary narrative scheme thickens the texture of this poem and thus complicates it. Although the narrative revolves around the hermit once he appears, his identity remains ambiguous throughout the whole poem. While the disappearance of first person narrator and the simultaneous abrupt arrival of the anonymous hermit might tempt readers to believe that they are the same person and raise other speculations, the hermit is a breac h through which we can understand other characters and the whole poem. As the other major character in this poem, the shepherd is at the same time also a smuggler who quits â€Å"for this/ Clandestine traffic his more honest toil† (182-183). Although the shepherd is engaging in this illegal trade, â€Å"he [the shepherd] is free;/ The dread that follows on illegal acts/ He never feels† (210-212). A Comparison Of Nelson Mandela And Mahatma Gandhi

A leader is a representative of a group of people who embodies confidence, optimism, empathy, courage, and trust along with many other traits. When discussing the topic of distinguished leaders, a notable name that can not be forgotten is Nelson Mandela, for his bold efforts in healing a mangled nation that had been segregated due to racial differences for more than fifty years. Another remarkable leader who must be acknowledged is Mahatma Gandhi for fighting for India’s independence from the British Empire, being an advocate for Hindu-Muslim unity, and for attempting to abolish the caste system in India for the betterment of people of lower class. In my opinion, Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi are by far the greatest leaders who†¦show more content†¦Gandhi also worked to try to abolish the caste system in India to fight for the lower-class citizens who were known as the â€Å"Untouchables† who were often mistreated and looked down upon, in order to lessen th e divide and strengthen the unity amongst the Indian population. As Mandela and Gandhi work to unite the people in their nation, King Lear does the opposite. In Act 1 of King Lear, Lear decides to give up his Kingship and decides that he wants to divide his land into 3 portions for each of his daughters to own a third of his land. Unfortunately, Lear is making a mistake because the situation results in the banishment of Cordelia who was his favourite daughter and creates division amongst Lear’s daughters which results in conflict. Like the events in King Lear, conflict due to the division of land is still present in the world we live in today. This is evident as we consider the ceaseless attacks and shootouts that take place in the northern Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir which borders Pakistan. Jammu and Kashmir does not have a defined perimeter, hence, even 70 years after Pakistan became its own nation and split from India, there are perpetual quarrels between people from India and Pakistan for control over that area. JB Priestlys An inspector calls Essay Example For Students

JB Priestlys An inspector calls Essay Act 2 ends not with an exit but with an entrance, Erics. The act finishes with an atmosphere of tension and immense expectancy of what is yet to come. How does J. B Priestly achieve this and what dramatic devices does he use? J B Priestlys An inspector calls is a first-class, proficient play containing an excellent diversity of clever dramatic devices and stage directions to guarantee to have you hanging on by every word and motion throughout the play for the expectancy of what is to occur. The way in which Priestly employees theses dramatic devices are very well organised and timed. For insistence at the beginning of the play his stage directions are very deliberate whilst using the lighting. It directs the lighting to be pink and intimate until the inspector arrives, and then it should be brighter and harder this suggests it to be an intimate and friendly atmosphere whilst their celebrations for Sheila and Geralds engagement but as soon as the inspector enters it changes to show seriousness in the room and the atmosphere hardens, the friendly atmosphere has gone-this I think is premeditated to prepare us for the things that are to come. The lighting then stays the same throughout the rest of the play because the atmosphere and tension does not leave also. The stage directions are intentional in the way they are seated at the dinner table which has no cloth and desert plates and champagne glasses, etc. and then re-placed with dentor of port, cigar box and cigarettes. This represents their wealth and the champagne suggests a celebration is taking place, the fact that they have no cloth over their table proposes that they are too good and its a fashionable manner. The way in which they are also seated is Mr Birling is at the top of the table and his wife the other end with Eric downstage and Shelia and Gerald upstage this advocates family status and that Mr Birling is the head of the family-he is the one with the most power. Another stage direction is All five are in evening dress of the period, the men in tails and white ties, not dinner-jackets. Arthur Birling is a heavy-looking rather portentous man in his speech. His wife is about fifty, a rather cold woman and her husbands superior with life and rather excited. Gerald Croft is an attractive chap about thirty, rather too manly to be dandy but is very much the easy well-bred young man about town. Eric is in his early twenties, not quite at ease, half shy, half assertive. At this time of the play, you already start to get an indication of the characters and the 1912 standards the date of the scene is set you recognize this by their outfits. At the moment they all have all had a god dinner, are celebrating a special occasion and are pleased with themselves this alludes to the fact that something is going to happen-the tension begins to set in. Another dramatic device is a dramatic pause by Mr Birling himself when he gives a speech to Shelia and Gerald about marriage and work. As soon as he begins he says I dont often make speeches at you- rather pompously in the stage directions he holds them for a moment before continuing this purpose of this is to show power by Mr Birling and suspense to want to know what he says in his speech the tension then also rises. This is intentional. Moreover when Birling asks the inspector what his business was with them and asked if it was anything to do with a a trouble-free warrant the inspector merely replied No, Mr Birling then he didnt continue until Mr Birling rather impatiently after a pause asked what is it then? this created suspense in the audience which is exactly what Priestley sought after. Additionally act one and two end with a pause before the curtain falls. Act one the inspector enters unobserved whilst Sheila and Gerald were having a conversation about this so-called dead girl and he simply walks in saying well? Balcony Scene EssayThen we see Eric entering the room and after a short pause the curtain falls leaving on a cliffhanger causing an immense amount of tension and suspense to want o know how Eric is involved and what will happen to him. The language and dialogue used in this play is very premeditated by Priestley in order to create as much tension and suspense in the atmosphere to keep the audience interested. For example when information is given to us, as the audience but then taken away again- as with the moment when Eric says yes, I remember Birling questions him by saying well, what do you remember? and he quickly says nothing to cover it up. Gerald then comes in by saying sounds a bit fishy to me-this is done with intent to arouse suspicion and suspense for the erg to know what he was talking about. The inspectors minimalist answers similar reminiscent of a unadorned yes or no and with no explanation following which often engenders Birling to retort which causes tension between the characters which I think Priestley does purposefully. When Sheila realises Gerald is also involved he asks her not to tell the inspector and she laughs rather hysterically and says why-you fool-he knows. Of course he knows. And I hate to think how much he knows that we dont know yet. Youll see. Youll see Repetition to emphasis more is come and keep us in suspense and interested. Its not just what is said that creates tension and suspense by the end of act two its also what is not said. As Eric enters the room he doesnt say anything- he knows they all know he has something to do with it this makes us want to know how he is involved and we wait in anticipation for him to say something but the curtain then closes leaving us wondering in suspense. I think J. B Priestley wanted this to be a didactic play to prove that every action has its consequences. When they realise that it wasnt one girl and no-one had actually died and there is no Inspector by the name he went by -some of them were relived that they wouldnt get a bad reputation or bad press, Sheila was the only one who saw what he was doing and said maybe there isnt an Eva Smith but there are thousand of people out there like that. I think J. B Priestleys aim was social reform and to tech us that everyone is equal and to simply think before you act.

How to Make Ice Spikes in Your Freezer

How to Make Ice Spikes in Your Freezer Ice spikes are tubes or spikes of ice that shoot up or off at an angle from a container of frozen water, such as a bird bath or bucket in the winter. The spikes resemble an inverted icicle. Ice spikes form rarely in nature, but you can make them in your own freezer quite simply and reliably. Heres what you do. Ice Spike Materials distilled waterice cube trayfrost-free freezer (ordinary home freezer) Its important to use distilled or reverse osmosis purified water. Ordinary tap water or mineral water contain dissolved substances that may prevent the water from forming spikes or reduce the number of spikes that are formed. You can substitute a bowl or cup for the ice cube tray. Plastic ice cube trays are nice because they contain several small compartments, meaning you have a quick freeze time and several chances for spikes. Make Ice Spikes Its easy! Simply pour the distilled water into the ice cube tray, set the tray in your freezer, and wait. You can expect about half of the ice cubes to contain ice spikes. An ordinary ice cube tray freezes in about 1-1/2 to 2 hours. The spikes degrade and soften over time since most home freezers are frost-free and will blow warmer air over the spikes. How It Works Pure water supercools, which means it remains liquid past the ordinary freezing point. When it starts to freeze at this lower temperature, it solidifies very rapidly. The freezing process starts at the edges of the container because the nicks, scratches, and imperfections allow for nucleation of the ice crystals. Freezing continues until there is only a hole near the middle of the container, which contains liquid water. Ice is less dense than liquid water, so some of the crystals float to the top and are pushed out, forming a spike. The spike grows until the water is frozen. There are two reasons why ordinary tap water or mineral water are less likely to form ice spikes. The first reason is that this water tends to freeze at its regular freezing point. This is a much slower process than freezing from the supercooled state, so solidification is more likely to be homogeneous or occur throughout the ice cube all at once. If there isnt a hole in the ice, the ice spike cant grow. The other reason is that contaminants or impurities in the water become concentrated in the liquid as the water freezes. Researchers believe solids become concentrated at the growing tip of an ice spike and inhibit further growth. Romans 12 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Romans 12 - Essay Example This is a powerful appeal. We receive from the Lord every day the fruits of his mercy. It is acceptable to God a reasonable service, which we are able and ready to give the reason for, and which we understand. Conversion and sanctification are the renewing of the mind; a change, not of the substance, but of the qualities of the soul. The progress of sanctification, dying to sin more and more, and living to righteousness more and more, is the carrying on this renewing work, till it is perfected in glory. The great enemy to this renewal is, conformity to this world. Take heed of forming plans for happiness, as though it lay in the things of this world, which soon pass away. Paul encourages us not to fall in with the customs of those who walk in the lusts of the flesh, and mind earthly things. But work with the Holy Ghost first begins in the understanding, and carried on to the will, affections, and conversation, there is a change of the whole man into the likeness of God, in knowledge, righteousness, and true holiness. That is to be godly, is to give up ourselves to God. Roman 12:3-8 explain how pride is a sin in us by nature; we need to be careful with it and armed against it. All the saints make up one body in Christ, who is the Head of the body, and the common Centre of their unity. In the spiritual body, some are fitted for and called to one sort of work and others for another sort of work. We are to do all the good we can, one to another, and for the common benefit. If we duly thought about the powers we have, and how far we fail properly to improve them, it would humble us. But as we must not be proud of our talents, so we must take heed lest, under a pretense of humility and self-denial, we are slothful in laying out ourselves for the good of others. We must not say, I am nothing, therefore I will sit still, and do nothing; but, I am nothing in myself, and therefore I will lay out

Is the mind equivalent to the brain Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Is the mind equivalent to the brain - Essay Example Biochemical processes just like energy production yield chemical compounds responsible for energy generations. Hormones are some of these chemical products of body system processes which they can associate to emotions but enough evidence is needed to show that there are variations among the same type of hormones among different individual persons. Insulin in a person can be the same insulin in another. This becomes the problem to explain emotions since this feeling varies with individuals. This is among the reasons why emotions and mind is considered to be some external factor that works in coordination with the body system such as the brain. The argument of this essay is based on a substance dualism approach integrated with the idea that the substance of the brain and that of the mind although separate in nature works together to coordinate body functions such as digestion, circulation, hearing, seeing, and other bodily systems and integrate these with human thinking and feelings of every kind produce sensations, emotions, ideas, and even think beyond the unthinkable. Since we accept that the mind as a... Theory of the mind basically revolved within the human being's capacity to understand his own behaviors like emotions, beliefs, intents, desires, knowledge, and others, and to feel that other individuals have beliefs, desires and intentions that are different from that of own self. This capacity is believed to be the result of evolutionary changes in the human brain (Povinelli and Preuss, 1995). These functions are inherent of the mind and are not physical but are accepted to be manifested in the brain, as a dualist understands (Calef, 2006). Latest neuro-imaging technology has identified the medial prefrontal cortex (MPFC), temporal poles, and posterior superior temporal sulcus (STS) junction as the particular areas in the brain that are more likely associated with the mind. (Firth and Firth, 2003 and Saxe et. al, 2003). The mind and brain had been thoroughly studied by different sociologists, philosophers, psychologists and every field of science and theology. There are several approaches used in the study of the functions of the brain and mind. The most common are the modular approach (Scholl and Leslie, 1999) and the integrated (Anderson & Lebiere, 1998). The modular considered every mind activity as a separate module in the brain. The integrated approach considered the mechanisms of understanding as an integration of all the modules that work to produce a comprehensive show of emotions, ideas, and understanding. The approach considers that to create a better feeling on a food taste, the sensations of the hand mouth and other mechanism connect to each other. Our idea is anchored within this context. The foundation of dualist idea It is hard not to mention Descartes when we are talking about dualism in

Study on understanding research process

Study on understanding research process Research methodology refers to the various sequential steps adopted by a researcher in studying the problem with certain objectives in mind. It is an explanation of the method of systematic and critical investigation into an identified subject of study. With an explanation of the elements in the concept of Research Onion (Saunders, Lewis, Thomhil, 2007) the researcher will describe the steps adopted to do this research. In short we can say that a research methodology is the description, explanation and justification of various methods of conducting research (Sharavanavel, 2006). 3.2. UNDERSTANDING RESEARCH PROCESS The concept of research onion (Saunders, Lewis, Thomhil, 2007) will be used to understand the research process used by the researcher. The main layers in the research onion are research philosophy, research approaches, strategy, choices, time horizon, and techniques and methods of data collection. An explanation of some these elements of research onion will provide the researcher with required knowledge to conduct this study (Saunders, Lewis, Thomhil, 2007). Figure : 3.1 Source: Saunders, Lewis, Thomhil (2007) 3.2.1. RESEARCH PHILOSOPHY A research philosophy is a belief or an idea regarding the collection, interpretation, and analysis of data collected. There are various philosophies are explained in Saunders research onion. The most significant among them are Positivism, Realism, interpretative, Objectivism, Subjectivism, Pragmatism, Functionalist, Interpretative, Radical humanist, Humanist and structuralist (Saunders, Lewis, Thomhil, 2007). Positivism holds reality as stable. An objective view point can be described by this. This philosophy further says that knowledge that are not based on positivism is invalid and blurred (Miller Strang Miller, 2010). Realism is a philosophy that holds scientific approach to development and knowledge . The basic assumption of this philosophy is that which is actually is. It is independent from the belief of the people. There are two types of realism. The one is direct and the other critical realism. From the point of view of a direct realist the world is static and having no change. Critical realism holds change as constant (Buchanam Bryman,2009). In Pragmatism problems are dealt with directly. This philosophy is more interested in results or truth rather than the principles associated with it. (William James, 2009) This philosophy holds that a concept or theoretical principle should be set on the basis of how it works (Saunders, Lewis, Thomhil, 2007). The philosophy adopted by the researcher in this study realism 3.2.2. RESEARCH APPROACHES The second last layer of the research onion of Saunders (Saunders, Lewis, Thomhil, 2007) is research approaches. APPROACHES DEDUCTIVE INDUCTIVE Figure:3.2 Source: Created by the author (2010) There are two types of approaches the Deductive and Inductive (Jonker Pennink, 2009). 3.2.2.1 Deductive Approach It is a journey from general to particular. Here the hypothesis and the theory are checked first and then move to results that are more specific. Here conclusion follows logically from the available facts (Jonker Pennink, 2009). 3.2.2.2 Inductive Approach In this approach an empirical observation takes the researcher to a result. Here specific observations will reach to more generalizations and forming up of theories. It is from specific to general. This method is mainly used in the qualitative research (Myers, 2009). 3.2.2.3 Quantitative Approach Quantitative methods always focus on the numbers and its frequencies. It does not emphasize on the experience and meanings but quantify the data collected. In quantitative approach the data will be subject to rigorous and strict analysis (Kothari, 2008). 3.2.2.4. Qualitative Approach In qualitative Approach the data is collected mainly to describe factors rather than reaching to a statistical inference. It is an unstructured exploratory research method. Here the important factors of character, behavior, attitude, opinion etc are subjectively assessed. (Myers, 2009) Usually qualitative studies are used for explanatory purposes (Kothari, 2008). This research study is a qualitative research with an inductive approach. Here the researcher will look into the specific situation of the nurses in the selected hospital and attempt to move to the generalization of the findings. 3.2.3. RESEARCH STRATEGY The next important layer in the research onion is research strategy. There are various strategies that researchers adopt for a particular research study. In Saunders research onion various research strategies are explained. Some of the strategies are experiment, survey, action research, case study, grounded theory, ethnography and archival research (Saunders, Lewis, Thomhil, 2007). Experimental research is mainly used for the research in physical sciences. It is used to identify the cause effect relationships and verifying inferences. The main features of this technique are isolation of factors, replication of experiment, and quantitative measurement of results (Sharavanavel, 2006). Survey research studies large and small populations by selecting and studying samples chosen from the populations to discover the relative incidence, distribution and interrelations of sociological and psychological variables. This research is mainly used to investigate social and psychological factors (Saunders, Lewis, Thomhil, 2007). Case study is a comprehensive study of a social unit. Here the subject of the study is a person, group, or a social institution. In this research the context is analysed in detail. Real life situations in real life context is analysed and studied (Sharavanavel, 2006). Action research is a study associated with a particular project and problem (Coghlan Brannick, 2009). The objective of this research can be finding immediate solution for a problem faced in a society. Therefore we can say that action research is concerned with actual life. It studies the what, how, and why of actual life. In short it is an attempt to understand the present issues and a help to predict the future changes (Jonker Pennink, 2009). Grounded theory is a qualitative research study. It is mainly used in the social sciences. When the traditional scientific method looks to start the research with a hypothesis this method is adopts the system of going directly into the data collection first. All the data collected are placed in different codes to identify common factors. From the group of these codes then a theory is formed (Charmaz, 2006). Ethnography is a unique qualitative research method. In this study the researcher will stay in the research location. The researcher stays with the population and get a first hand information from the particular culture or group (Murchison, 2009). The final element in the Research strategy is Archival research strategy. It means the entire study will be based on the materials of the study kept in some archives by some other researchers. In this strategy a huge quantity of data is available and so often the data remain uncontrollable. Therefore it is not possible to make casual conclusions on the basis of such types of data (Graham, Towl . Crihton, 2010). In this research the researcher has adopted the strategy of a case study to obtain data from the samples selected. The study will be conducted among the nurses in a single hospital. 3.2.4. CHOICES The next layer in the research onion is Choice. These choices can be divided into Mono method, Mixed method and Multi method. In this researcher adopts one method for his study from various methods of research. In Mixed method the researcher adopts generally two methods such as qualitative or quantitative research methods. In Multi method a number of research methods are brought together to investigate or to make a study (Saunders, Lewis, Thomhil, 2007). In this study of the occupational stress of the nurses the researcher has adopted mixed method and multi method of choice. Yet only the qualitative research method is used here by the researcher to do the studies on the occupational stress among the nurses. 3.2.5. TIME HORIZONES Time Horizons can be indicated as a time target fixed. A time limit is usually fixed for the completion of a task or activity. It refers to a planning or a preparation. Here the time limit for the completion of a research study is explained. There are two types of time horizons. The first one is Cross Sectional and the second is Longitudinal. In Cross sectional study the time is prefixed for the completion a study. In longitudinal no time is limit for the data collection, data analysis, and other completion of the research. Behavioral studies usually conducted in longitudinal methods as it needs a long time for observation (Saunders, Lewis, Thomhil, 2009). In this study of the occupational stress of the nurses the time horizon was cross sectional method that was adopted by the researcher. The time horizon for conducting the research was prefixed and planned. A limited period of time was allotted to the researcher to conduct the data collection for the samples selected. 3.2.6. DATA COLLECTION AND DATA ANALYSIS The most important elements in a research study are data collection and data analysis. A systematically collected data and its proper analysis will answer a research question. It is a technique with a procedure (Bryman Bell, 2007). The reliability and validity of a research is directly applied to the measurement of data (Wood Ross-Kerr, 2010). There are two types of data collected for a systematic analysis for any research. They are Primary Data and Secondary Data (Kumar, 2008). 3.2.6.1.The Primary Data Primary Data refers to that information that are generated first time or that are generated to meet the specific requirements of the investigation at hand. Primary data is collected directly from the respondents or the subjects of experiment (Yin, 2010). Here there is a proper control over the information gathered (Bhattacharyya, 2006). The major disadvantage here is that it is more time consuming. Some times the primary data collection becomes more difficult as the suitable persons or samples are not at hand (Reason Bradbury, 2006). There are various sources of primary data. They are, Questionnaire, Interview Schedules and interviews, Focus groups, Case Studies, Experiments, Observations, Surveys and Discussions (Collrel McKenzie, 2010). The researcher, in this study, has collected the primary source of data by employing interview schedule, and structured questionnaire. The Questionnaire enlists questions, which translate the research objectives into specific questions. The question must also encourage the respondent so that the necessary data is obtained. In this study the researcher has employed both factual as well as opinion and attitude questions. 3.2.6.2. Secondary Data Secondary data is not collected directly from the respondents. Here the data has been collected by some others (Bhattacharyya, 2006).   Ã‚  It can be collection of the review of the primary data. The collection of secondary data is cheap in terms of time and economy. For a comparison of two types of statistics and reaching to an inference secondary data can be very effective. Yet the secondary data can be outdated and can be subjective as it has already evolved in the mind of somebody else. Secondary data can be uncontrollable and vast making it to be inappropriate for a particular purpose (Saunders, Lewis, Thomhil, 2007). There are various sources of secondary data. Books, Journals, News Papers, Reports and publications, Articles in magazines and websites, government statistics, company or organization statistics (Bryman Bell, 2007). In this study to collect the secondary data the researcher will be using various materials pertaining to the topic of the research. A number of books, health related articles, health journals, web pages, hospital statistics and news papers will be used for the collection of secondary data. Data analysis is an important area in the completion of the research (Saunders, Lewis, Thomhil, 2007). There are various techniques to analyse the data collected, such as Frequency Distributions, and Cross Tabulations, Descriptive Statistics, T-Tests and Analysis of Variance, Self Analysis, Regression, Data Reduction or Factor analysis, Cluster and Discriminant Analysis and Hierarchical Liner Modeling etc.(Bernard Ryan, 2009). In this research the researcher has used the self analysis method for the analysis of the data collected. The Data will be analyzed systematically. The information collected will be presented in tables with equivalent charts and diagram wherever required. The researcher also used pie chart and bar diagrams for data analysis. 3.3. RESEARCH DESIGN A research design is an outline of the plan, structure and strategy of the research. This outline specifies the how the research is carried out, what methodology and techniques are adopted for achieving objectives. With out such a logical and systematic plan no scientific study is possible (Myers, 2009). EXPLANATORY EXPOLORATORY DESCRIPTIVE RESEARCH DESIGN Figure: 3.3 Source : Created By the Author (2010) The Exploratory study aims at formulation of a new insight into a phenomenon. The Descriptive study aims at portraying accurately the characteristics of a particular group or situation. Explanatory study only and explanation of something happening will be looked into (Pope Mays, 2006). In this study of the occupational stress of the nurses the researcher has used a descriptive design. It enables the researcher to describe or present the picture of the phenomenon under investigation. This design is used in the study to describe the relationship between the occupational stress and the nurses employed in the hospital selected for the study. 3.4. SAMPLES A sample is a smaller representation of a large whole from where it is taken. It is a section of the population selected in such a way that they are the representative of the universe (Kothari, 2008). 3.4.1. Sample Size Sample size is the number of items to be selected from the universe to constitute a sample. For the study here the sample size is 40. 3.4.2. Sampling Techniques It is the selection of a part of an aggregate on the basis of which a judgment about the totality is made. It is the method of selecting some fraction of the total population or target group. This small group will allow judgments to be made about larger groups. Basically there are two types of sampling methods used. They are probability sampling and non probability sampling (Kumar, 2008). Figure: 3.4 Source: Saunders, Lewis, Thomhil, 2009) In research process, there are Probability sampling methods and Non-probability methods used to obtain data from the samples selected. Since this research is carried out among the nurses working in a hospital, the availability of the respondents in the sample population cannot be ensured. Moreover, the researcher employs a couple of associates to collect data and for them time and availability of respondents are crucial. Thus, the researcher has used Non-Probability Convenient method of sampling in which all the members of the sample have equal chances of selection and they have been chosen according to their availability and convenience of the research associates (Offredy Vickers, 2010). 3.5. CONCLUSION The explanation of the research onion helped the researcher to understand the process and different variables of the research. This chapter presents the methodology used by the researcher. The methodology used in this study will is qualitative and inductive. The researcher will also use primary and secondary sources of data to make his analysis and conclusion.

Dispersion and Its Types in Fiber Optics

Dispersion: The speed of light is slower in various materials than it is in a vacuum or outer space. When the light passes into a material at an angle, the light beam is bent or refracted according to Snell’s Law and the index of refraction of the material. But also, the speed of light through a material varies slightly with the wavelength or frequency of the light. Thus, each wavelength is refracted at a slightly different angle when passing through a material at an angle. This spreading out of beam of light is called dispersion. Types of Dispersions and ways to reduce: Chromatic Dispersion: Chromatic dispersion results from the spectral width of the emitter. It is a term used to describe the spreading of a light pulse as it travels down a fiber when light pulses launched close together(high data rates) spread too much and result in errors and a loss of information. The spectral width determines the number of different wavelengths that are emitted from LED or laser. One way to reduce chromatic dispersion is to narrow the spectral width of the transmitter. Chromatic dispersion can be compensated for with the use of dispersion-shifted fiber (DSF). Laser has a more narrow spectral width than LEDs. A monochromatic laser emits only one wavelength and therefore, does not contribute to chromatic dispersion. Modal Dispersion: Modal dispersion deals with the path (mode) of each light ray. Most transmitters emit many different modes. Lower order modes travel a shorter distance. Some of these light rays will travel parallel to the center of the fiber while repeatedly bounce off the cladding/core boundary to high order modes their way the waveguide. The modes that enter at sharp angles are called high-order mode, which having direction towards cladding. These modes take longer path to travel through the fiber than the low-order modes and therefore it cusses of modal dispersion. One way to reduce modal dispersion is to use graded-index fiber. The graded-index fiber’s cladding is doped so that the refractive index gradually decreases over many layers. Graded Index Fiber has a different core structure from single mode and multimode step index fibers. In Graded index fiber the value of the refractive index changes from the centre of the core. With a graded-index fiber, the light follows a more curved path. The high-order modes spend most of the time traveling in the lower-index cladding layers near the outside of the fiber. These lower index core layers allow the light to travel faster than in the higher index center layers. Modal dispersion can be completely eliminated by using a single-mode fiber. Single mode fiber transmits only one mode of light so there is no spearding of the signal due to modal dispersion. Material Dispersion: Material dispersion is the phenomenon whereby material causes a bundle of light to spread out as it propagates. We know that a laser pulse contains a continuum of wavelengths in a small range. The index of refraction of a material is dependent on the wavelength, so each frequency component actually travels at a slightly different speed. Material dispersion contributes to group delay, along with waveguide delay distortion, differential mode delay and multimode group delay spread.

Skittles Marketing Plan - 2356 Words

Skittles is a well-known, long-standing brand that has pleased consumers for generations. However, it is our contention that the name’s growth is stagnating, and needs to be revitalized based upon a core marketing goal: bring Skittles from simply a candy – something one consumes on a whim and forgets about – to a brand that engenders both value and feeling for consumers. With such a focus, the objective is to influence the seemingly minor consumer choice between confections in vending machines and on store shelves by linking a positive and pleasing emotion to the image of the brand. The intention is to achieve realistic, long-term financial goals, which will be controlled through measuring actual results against initial projections. The†¦show more content†¦Further research on candy sales has yielded an adjusted 50-70% industry average range for retail profit margins, suggesting a manufacturer-to-distributor price of $0.18 to $0.30 per bag.3 The secret t o profit is to make use of an intensive distribution, wherein Skittles are available in every store and vending machine possible. Since this is already the case, the only new distribution concerns that enter the marketing plan consist of seasonal products and Skittles vodka. Seasonal Skittles will be circulated through stores, as interchanging products in vending machines is significantly more difficult. However, â€Å"Absolut Rainbow† will rely on Absolut Vodka’s distribution network after product development. Distribution Distribution for the brand is already exceptional; it is rare to see a vending machine or candy display without at least one variety of Skittles. The current method of distributing the product is a mixture of pull and push strategies. Retailers of candy demand Skittles because they know that consumers will purchase them often enough to move product and produce profit, while Wrigley actively offers the product to said retailers, using their already-present pull force to facilitate even wider distribution. The above analysis leads to the belief that changing the basic distribution strategy is unwise, yetShow MoreRelatedNo matter the nature of your business, having a solid marketing plan behind you is essential.
